GENERAL INFORMATION

Cap Screws

Steel (Grade 2)

1/4" x 1/2" to 1-1/2" x 8"

Grade 2, low-carbon bright. Minimum tensile strength of 74000 psi in diameters through 3/4", and 60000 psi for diameters over 3/4" through 1-1/2". Grade 2 is not recommended for use with fine threads.

Cap Screws

Steel (Grade 5)

1/4" x 1/2" to 1-1/2" x 8"

Grade 5, medium-carbon heat-treated in a carbon controlled atmosphere. Minimum tensile strength of 120,000 psi in diameters through 1", and 105,000 psi for diameters over 1" through 1-1/2". Grade 5 will also meet other specifications such as ASTM A449.

Cap Screws

Steel (Grade 8)

1/4" x 1/2" to 1" x 7"

Grade 8, alloy, heat-treated in a carbon controlled atmosphere. Minimum tensile strength of 150,000 psi. Grade 8 will also meet ASTM A354 Grade BD.

Carriage

Low Carbon Steel

1/4" x 1/2" to 3/4" x 10"

Originally used in the assembly of carriages, these bolts are now primarily used in woodworking applications where a round head of minimum height is required.

Carriage - Shaker Screen

High Carbon Steel, Heat Treated

1/2 x 1-1/2" to 3/4" x 6"

Fully threaded carriage bolts.

Dowel Screws

Steel, Brass, Stainless Steel

3/16" x 1" to 3/8" x 30"

Elevator

Steel

1/4" x 3/4" to 3/8" x 3"

Also known as belt bolts, elevator bolts have the largest diameter heads of all flush-head types. They are used primarily in industrial belting systems where head clearances must be minimal.

Hanger

Steel, Brass, Stainless Steel

3/16" x 1" to 3/8" x 6"

Hex Bolts

Steel

1/4" x 1/2" to 2" x 8"

Hex bolts are offered with UNRC-2A threads. Heat treated carbon or alloy steel are available from cap-screw stock.

Hex Bolts - Heavy

Steel

1/2" x 1" to 1-1/2" x 8"

Head dimensions are approximately 1/8" wider across the flats than the standard hex bolt. It is generally used for applications where maximum bearing area is required.

Lag Screws - Hex & Square

Steel

1/4" x 1" to 3/4" x 12"

Hex head lag screws are identical in all respects to square lag screws except for head dimensions.

Plow - Standard

Medium carbon steel, quenched & tempered

5/16" x to 1" x

Albany Steel stocks one standard type of plow bolt: the No. 3 with round countersunk head and square neck.

Plow - Dome Head

Steel (Grade 8)

5/16" x to 1" x

Dome head plow bolts put extra metal at the wearing surface where it's needed. They give added life to the assembly by resisting shock and abrasion.

Square

Steel (Grades 2,5,8) and A193-B7

1/4" x 1/2" to 1-1/2" x 8"

Some customers prefer bolts with square heads, particularly for applications where the use of power tools is impractical or undesirable. For such applications, square bolts offer greater bearing area for more positive gripping with a hand wrench.

Square - Heavy

Steel (Grades 2,5,8) and A193-B7

1/4" x 1/2" to 1-1/2" x 8"

Some customers prefer bolts with square heads, particularly for applications where the use of power tools is impractical or undesirable. For such applications, square bolts offer greater bearing area for more positive gripping with a hand wrench.

Step

Steel

1/4" x 5/8" to 1/2" x 6"

Structural A325 TYPE 1

Medium carbon steel

1/2" x 1-1/4" to 1-1/4" x 8"

Our fastener plants produce and stock a complete line of high-strength structural fasteners. They include bolts, nuts and washers to specification A325 Type 1 and Type 3 (Weath-R), and also to A490 specification requirements.

Structural A490 & A325 TYPE 3

Steel with atmospheric corrosion resistance

5/8" x 1-1/2" to 1-1/4" x 8"

Our fastener plants produce and stock a complete line of high-strength structural fasteners. They include bolts, nuts and washers to specification A325 Type 1 and Type 3 (Weath-R), and also to A490 specification requirements.

Tap

Steel (Grades 2,5,8)

1/4" x 1/2" to 3/4" x 6"

Tap bolts are untreated hex bolts with longer than standard threads (UNRC-2A) to allow for extra or variable take-up in metalworking applications.
